My friend told me that when you kill a pig you have to make sure that it is not in fear when it dies, because fear causes the pig to release adrenaline or some chemical that instantly ruins all the meat, rendering it useless to the "hunter". She said the pigs would be released into the peach orchard just before their unsuspected slaughter. I thought that was pretty interesting (and yes, slightly morbid. my apologies.)
I've heard of the same basic idea of all animals killed for food, but I assure you that this particular pig was in fear since I watched it get dragged over to a cart, screaming the whole way. Not a pretty sight. And you can bet no slaughterhouses have peach orchards out back...
