Maybe, if just like dogs, we could all chew on our friend's and associate's heads a bit, the world would be a more relaxed place. Maybe we could also find time for a good nap after particularly aggressive chewings.

River water traveling somewhere between the speed of rapids and a gentle flow has a feeling and sound not unlike whitewater rolling in at the beach. While not a perfect substitute for the sound of breaking waves, it sure holds its own.

all-powerful

All those people reacting to God, doing things for God. But isn't the concept of God that God would need no help? He can handle it all, right? How can you say you believe in God and then try to help God at the same time? It doesn't make any sense.

Update 2/25: The Christian Right is apparently having trouble finding a satisfactory conservative candidate to endorse for president in 2008. Apparently, they just want to help God out with a good, solid Christ-like pick. And after all, he (I would write 'he/she', but they wouldn't) must be very busy and I guess they figure he could use some help with the details. Those folks sure are thoughtful to lend Our Lord In Need a hand, aren't they?

Misfortune is not likely a strong enough word to describe what the body above went through after impact with the water. Just imagining the violence, disorientation, and sheer time under water this surfer experienced is enough to make me shiver.

I took the above photograph for the designers of this public art project, called 'In The Eye Of The Storm.' It is located in downtown Los Angeles outside of the LAPD's 911 Communication Dispatch Center. I think it's an excellent example of well done public art - an installation that both the art educated and the masses can appreciate and learn from. The design is made of attractive and symbolic materials, it is interactive, and there's text to be read and interpreted on the plaza and the cylinder seen above. Moving within the space and the cylinder serves to illustrate the varied (and often intense) experiences of callers using the 911 phone system in Los Angeles. hairy freakin' ears

Getting old ain't so bad. You're wiser, and generally have a solid appreciation for things based on experience. If you take good care of yourself and you've got good genes, you should feel pretty good, too. But if you ask me, hairy ears suck. If it was just a little peach fuzz that'd be alright. But no, it comes on curly and corkscrewed and shoots out all over the damn place. Very disturbing. Maybe not as disturbing as the Iraq War and global climate change and ignorance, but disturbing nonetheless.
